| The Arctic Traveller
custom trawler training program based in Juneau, Alaska announces training
opportunities along the Inside Passage from Seattle to Alaska and within
the Alaskan Inside Passage. New to the training curriculum will
be an option for a special session to take an in-depth look at maintenance,
engineering, repair, and damage control issues involved in long distance
cruising. Every system will be reviewed in detail. This session
can also be designed to help educate potential boat buyers about the many
issues involved in choosing the right vessel for their needs. The
goal is to allow students to be totally self-sufficient when cruising
remote waters. "Too often, after mastering the basics,
new boat owners want to expand their cruising range only to discover
that although they may be up to many of the challenges of long distance
cruising, they lack the hands on experience to tackle the tough engineering
issues that can arise," says
Captain Jeff, a retired engineer and veteran of the Inside Passage.
You can join them for a few days, a week or more, and learn vital skills that will allow you to confidently cruise your own vessel in unfamiliar waters. Along with the traditional list of seamanship skills, the Arctic Traveller Trawler training aims to take your awareness of the cruising experience to a new level -- from pleasure boater to seasoned mariner. This is accomplished on the spectacular backdrop of Alaska's coastal wilderness. Captain Jeff Coult has extensive experience on the Inside Passage and has made dozens of round trips in all manner of craft from 40ft sailboats to 85ft commercial passenger vessels. You can learn the skills you need to fully enjoy this spectacular cruising area. Custom classes are offered aboard the electronically stabilized Arctic Traveller, a Defever 49 Raised Pilot House trawler. This is a vessel well suited to cruising these waters. Jeff's wife, First Mate Janet provides sumptuous meals, and serves as chief navigator and naturalist. The vessel is warm, dry and offers superb accommodations. |
